The Nuance of Nature: Inspiring Creativity with Arts & Technology
(Creative Extension to Fantastic Fungi)

(Mixed Media Arts & Technology)

Live Online Zoom Tues or Weds afternoons

(tbd by parents and teacher)

In this online community class we will forage into our passion for nature and how it can fuel our inspiration and creativity. Guided by the creative unit lessons in Fantastic Fungi, an amazing curriculum created from its documentary film namesake, we wander into the world of Art for Art's sake. Inspired by the film's lush beautiful photography, poetry, and videography, we tread onward, finding expression in form, magic in lighting, and the simple beauty of nature -- during one of the quietest seasons, Winter. Come with us as we honor Nature with arts of our own creation. Students will learn more about the time lapse photography we witnessed in the film, why and how it captures our attention, and try their hand at capturing a natural phenomenon with camera or smartphone. We'll learn about Beatrix Potter (famous artist, author, and secret mycologist!) and try our hand at a simple children's story that inspires through nature. Other projects may touch on drawing, music, visual arts, poetry, even dance and movement, as we analyze famous creators and find ways to express our love for nature in our own unique way. These online live classes, from the comfort of your home, will include informative learning , project discussions, and sharing opportunities, as we inspire, encourage, and delight in capturing the beauty of this coming season! If so inspired, we may even hold an in person Gallery showing during the co-op term for our homeschool community! This class is open to adults as well. We value our diverse creative community - come sit with us! This course fulfills the high school requirement for .2-.5 credit in Arts, or Writing, depending on the level of participation and work effort submitted by student, and parent preference for further supplement. In this class we will learn about traditional forms of medicine. We will focus on the health of the body, mind, and soul, and how they have been used for generations to treat various ailments. Children will leave this class with an understanding of everyday herbs like basil, lavender, rosemary, oregano, or thyme. And how those can relieve pain, ease digestive issues, kill infections, boost oxygen uptake in the blood, and much much more. How powerful is it for kids to learn there can be a whole mini pharmacy in their backyard.  Jessica Homan is a Spiritual Mentor, Author, Artist, Poet and a proud Homeschool Mama.
